Long-term boarding with the consistency your bird needs
When you are planning a longer trip, whether it is a two-week vacation, a month visiting family overseas, or an extended work assignment, your biggest concern is probably whether your bird will be okay without you for that long. At Milton Bird Boarding, our extended stay program is specifically designed to answer that question with a confident yes. We have cared for birds on stays ranging from one week to two months, and we have learned exactly what it takes to keep a companion bird happy, healthy, and emotionally stable during an extended absence from their owner.
The key to a successful extended stay is routine. Birds are creatures of habit, and disrupting their daily rhythm for weeks at a time can lead to stress behaviours like feather plucking, appetite loss, or withdrawal. That is why we build a detailed care plan before every extended stay, mapping out your bird's feeding schedule, sleep times, enrichment preferences, socialization needs, and any health considerations. Once that plan is in place, we follow it consistently, day after day, so your bird develops a comfortable rhythm at our facility. Within the first few days, most birds settle into the new routine and begin eating, playing, and vocalizing normally. By the end of the first week, many are genuinely at ease.
Extended stay guests also benefit from extra socialization and out-of-cage time with our experienced handlers. We rotate enrichment activities on a weekly basis to prevent boredom, introduce new foraging challenges, and adjust the care plan as we learn more about your bird's preferences during the stay. You will receive daily photo updates and a detailed weekly report covering your bird's behaviour, appetite, mood, and any observations worth noting. Our goal is to make sure that when you walk through the door after your trip, your bird is not just surviving but genuinely thriving. Extended stays of seven nights or more qualify for our discounted rate, because we believe longer-term care should be accessible to every Milton bird owner who needs it.
